Loving God With All My Heart

31 Days of Letting Go

Loving God with All My Heart

Is your heart divided? Are you torn between serving God and fulfilling the demands of life? Do you desire to love God more, but rush through devotions to move on to the next thing?  How often do you say, “Tomorrow, I’ll do better”?

You are not alone! We all fall short, and there is no guilt or condemnation for our past. But, we do serve a righteous God who demands our complete devotion. He desires your whole heart, not just a piece, not even most of it…all of it.

What are you holding onto today? Surrender it to God, just let it go and find complete freedom, peace, and strength in His arms. Whatever it is, you are not meant to carry it alone. Perhaps, you are not even meant to carry it at all! Give it to God and let Him deliver you today.

Teach me Your way, O LORD; I will walk in Your truth; Unite my heart to fear Your name. I will give thanks to You, O Lord my God, with all my heart, And will glorify Your name forever. For Your lovingkindness toward me is great, And You have delivered my soul from the depths… (Psalm 86:11-13)

Time in His Word: Psalm 86

Daily Prayer at His feet~

Lord, I surrender my desires, my heart, my past, my thoughts, everything to You. I want to worship You with my whole, undivided heart. Reveal any sinful thoughts, attitudes, or behaviors that hinder my worship, remove any idols in my life, and strengthen me to trust You completely.  You, and You alone are my Lord, and I will glorify Your name forever. In Jesus’ name, Amen!

Staying Afloat

We recently drove to the beach at the beginning of a tropical storm. Having recently moved to coastal Georgia from the Gulf of Mexico, we wanted to see the big waves rolling in before it became too dangerous to be on the beach. We weren’t the only crazy ones out there, but the beach was fairly empty. Just a few others, like us, watching the power of the waves and enjoying just a glimpse of God’s might and power. The wind was howling and swirling so we didn’t stay long, but we walked up and down the shoreline in awe of the power of nature, and the glory of its creator.

The past 2 years have been something of a whirlwind and at times it seemed the winds of life were howling around us and we couldn’t get a solid footing on stable ground. There were days where I knew I could stand on God, my solid rock, but I felt like I was on my tiptoes trying to stay balanced on the edge of a cliff. God never left me though and there are countless life-changing blessings that never could have happened apart from the trials.

During the darkest times, my dear friend, Cyndi, an amazing blessing herself, reminded me what a Great big God we serve with a beautiful illustration that God had given her. She had me imagine being on a raft in the ocean and just relax, knowing my raft was safe and would go wherever the current would flow. Many times we have jokingly talked about our rafts and how it is such a relief to know we don’t have to always steer or navigate. We can just sit back and trust God, who is in complete control anyway.

God is my rock in times of trouble- and He is my raft on the seas. He will lead and guide me on the perfect course. Sometimes He will direct me safely away from the turbulent seas, but sometimes I have to go through them. It is in these rough seas that I can learn the most about myself and my God. My job isn’t to control every detail or even understand. I am called to trust and let God lead. So, I float on my raft in complete safety, trusting in my God.

Some days are harder than others. Thankfully, God is always in control and never leaves His throne. Nothing, nothing, takes Him by surprise. I can rest peacefully even in the most turbulent storms because I can trust my God! He is faithful and will keep my raft afloat. I can lay back and bask in the sunshine on the clear days, and I can hold on and trust Him through the most violent waves as they crash all around me. I know my God will never leave me nor forsake me- all I have to do is trust! And then when those perfect times of calm waters, clear skies and gorgeous sunshine come, they are all the more sweeter and I can appreciate them all the more!

Thank You LORD for loving me enough to keep me afloat and for never letting me go. Thank You for carrying me through the storms of life and for blessing me with so much more than I could ever deserve. You are my rock and my fortress-my raft- carrying me through safely to my destination of eternity with You. Strengthen me to remain steadfast in the storms so that I can remain true in the calm. Thank You for Your reassuring Presence, Your perfect peace, and Your unending love.

Dusty Armor

God knew before time how hard today would be. He knew the struggles I would face and the emotions I would feel.   He knows the battles I face both now and those to come and He has given me everything I need to not only survive but to have complete victory, complete peace, and complete joy!  To fully experience this though, I must prepare and use the weapons and protection He offers me! If my armor is dusty, it’s no wonder I feel the darts so much!

I was reading Exodus 14 this morning and I am so grateful for a God who goes before me to lead me, but then will move behind me and separate my enemies from me for the night, just as He did for the Israelites against the Egyptians. He held back the Egyptians while He parted the sea for the Israelites to cross on dry land.  They crossed over in full light while the Egyptian army was held back in the dark! That’s our mighty God who is fighting for us.

My enemy is just as real and I am in a daily battle. Ephesians 6 tells me that my “struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.” But just as God told Moses in Exodus 14 to “not be afraid. Stand firm and you will see the deliverance the LORD will bring today” God will deliver me from my enemies as well. In fact, He already has. To walk in daily victory thoughI need my armor and it is my responsibility to put it on every day.  I have a shield of faith, but I must put it up and use it. I must choose to listen to the truths God sings over me and not believe anything else! I must ignore the lies of the enemy.

Just as God told Moses to stand firm against the Egyptians, I can stand firm against my enemy and I do not have to be afraid, but I do need the protection and the weapons God has given me and I need to use them. It is up to me every day to put on the full armor of God.  If I fail to do this every day, then I am setting myself up for failure. Now the enemy can’t take my faith, but he can sure mess with my emotions and keep me from being effective. I can become so consumed with my own problems and struggles that I forget I am already victorious. Rather than live in the joy and peace that is mine, I can become consumed with fear, insecurity, and a host of other lies if not covered by the armor of God. I must listen to God and let His voice be louder than any other sound in my life.

Lord, help me to stand firm against the schemes of the enemy. Help me see that You go before me and behind me. You give me the weapons and protection I need when it is time to fight, but You also go between me and my enemy when I need time to prepare and go forward to a new place. Lord, help me listen only to Your truths and to ignore the lies. When I feel defeated or depressed, help me remember You have already overcome. Help me soak in Your Word and bask in Your goodness. You love me with an immeasurable love- help me not only feel Your love today, but even more than that, help me know to my innermost being, the depth of the love You have for me! Jesus in Your mighty, all-powerful name, AMEN!

The LORD will fight for you; you need only to be still Exodus 14:14

Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand. Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place,  and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace.  In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one.  Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.
