My life is a series of choices to be made and every choice has a consequence, a result that is either positive or negative, good or bad, uplifting or depressing. As I go through each day, my choices bring about fruit in my life and affect those around me, especially my family. My life will bear fruit of one kind or another. The question is, what kind of fruit? Will it be pleasing or rotten? Good or wasted?
On my own, I am selfish, mean, miserable, impatient, and bound up by insecurity and strongholds- nothing but rotten fruit! BUT in Christ, I am a completely new creation- the ultimate make-over!! In Christ, I am rooted in love and bound only by the Holy Spirit! He can take my every thought captive and create a pure, clean heart with good and pleasing fruit! That’s what I want- a fruit-filled life of joy, peace and above all LOVE! I want my children to see abundant and good fruit in my life and produce fruit of their own! I want them to hear love, joy, peace and patience in my words and see them in my actions-so I must choose these things first. I must give God complete control before I ever open my mouth or think a thought in my head.
In every situation, I have a choice to make. I can choose to love or I can choose to hate. I can choose joy or misery, peace or turmoil; I can choose truth or I can choose lies; I can choose to give it to God or I can let it consume me; I can choose freedom or I can choose to stay a captive; and the ultimate choice, I can choose to follow Jesus or I can choose not to. In every moment of my life, I have a choice. I choose Jesus!
My life is knit together by the choices I make. I may not get to choose the circumstances and situations I will face today, but I do get to choose how I will respond to them and Who I will give control to! I will blow it sometimes and I will make mistakes, but I choose joy, peace, goodness, and freedom! Thank You Jesus!
But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law. (Galatians 5:22-23)
